The attendants of the sitting supported the Committee´s initiative as to the holding of parliamentary hearings on the topic "On the Advance of Information Society in Ukraine in the Context of Sustainable Development" in autumn 2010.
Volodymyr Polokhalo, Committee Chairman, stated: "The latest parliamentary hearings on the information society development were held five years ago, on 21 September 2005. The guidelines of these hearings were endorsed by the parliament. The Law "On the Fundamentals of Development of the Information Society in Ukraine in 2007-2015" was adopted in 2007, the corresponding action plan for its implementation being passed by the Government."
V.Polokhalo admitted the achievements in this pursuit, however, he deems necessary not only to study the accomplishments and the drawbacks, but also to set new objectives due to the rapid development of the global information space.
Jointly with the Advisory Board, the Committee shall elaborate a draft resolution of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the holding of hearings, and set up a working group to prepare and summarize the recommendations and information materials.
Considering the topicality of the issue, the working group is recommended to draft the bill on the Fundamentals of Sustainable Development of Ukraine."
The participants of the meeting believe that these fundamentals serve as a conceptual basis for the integral action plan of the sustainable development of Ukraine in the scope of economic growth, the environmental protection, efficient use of natural resources, achievement of welfare and social equiaty, stabilization of demographic growth, education and international cooperation.
The attendants of the sitting also recommend that the Government facilitates drafting of the E-Government Concept and Strategy of Ukraine.
